Realme GT 8 Pro Review – Showcase or truly a flagship killer?

Realme GT 8 Pro

I have been wondering about the Realme GT 8 Pro for a long time. I don’t think Realme has made this phone primarily for sales. Rather, I think it is a positioning device, to show their strength in the market. Because, when phones like OnePlus 15 are available for the same price, who will buy the Realme GT 8 Pro? And why would a user choose Realme over OnePlus?

In this review, we’ll analyze everything from the unboxing to the first impressions, performance, camera, battery, display, and finally, whether the phone is really worth the price.

BBK Group and Brand Positioning

It’s an open secret—Realme, OnePlus, and Oppo are all under the same parent group, BBK. The companies claim they are independent brands, but in reality, many of the components, software stacks, and design concepts overlap.
The Find X series can be considered an all-round flagship, OnePlus is ahead in performance and software experience, and Realme has tried to show a different side by bringing the camera to the fore.

Price & Unboxing Experience

Realme GT 8 Pro is priced at ₹72,999, and is available on offer at ₹67,999. That is, a phone worth around 70 thousand rupees. In the box, you will get—

  • 120W SuperVOOC charger
  • USB A to C cable
  • SIM ejector tool
  • Good quality silicone case
  • And the most unique thing—a special screwdriver and screw set for changing the camera bump

This is the world’s first switchable camera bump feature. Users can change the camera module to any look they want – round, square, black or colorful.

This is definitely a try-it-and-have-it kind of feature, and is perfect for creating a different identity in the market.

Design and build quality

First impression when holding the phone in hand – the phone is thick and heavy. About 220.9 grams, but this weight is not too unusual since the battery is 7000mAh.
The body balance is fairly good, but if the camera module were on the side, it might have looked more visually balanced.

  • Gorilla Glass 7i on the front
  • Vegan leather option in blue on the back
  • IP68 / IP69 rating – can also be used underwater

At the end of the day, the phone feels premium, although the size and weight may not be comfortable for everyone.

Display

6.79-inch 2K (144Hz) Display
Realme claims a maximum peak brightness of 7000 nits, and 2000 nits in HBM mode. In real-world experience, the display is really bright and media viewing is great.

  • 144Hz adaptive refresh rate (but it’s not LTPO)
  • Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Widevine L1
  • Extremely thin bezel
  • Balanced stereo speakers

This is truly top-notch in multimedia experience.

Performance

Inside is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.1 storage.
It’s strong on paper, but real-world tests have shown—

  • Antutu score 3.97M, didn’t touch 4M
  • Geekbench single > 3700, multi > 11000
  • OnePlus 15 leads in sustained performance
  • Frame drops are understandable during long gaming sessions.
  • Has Hyper Vision Plus chip, which improves resolution and gaming visuals

Short gaming session → Awesome
Long gaming session → heat & throttling দেখা যায়

Battery & Charging

  • 7000 mAh battery
  • 120W fast charging (Full in 35-36 minutes)
  • 50W wireless charging
  • 1.5 days battery backup, Screen-on-Time ~9-9.5 hours

Camera – Realme’s new direction

Now the real surprise—Ricoh partnership camera system

Camera Spec
Primary 50MP
Telephoto 200MP (3X optical / 6X lossless / 12X AI)
Ultrawide 50MP
Front 32MP

This is the only 200MP telephoto camera at this price.
The shutter speed is extremely fast—ideal for street photography.

Ricoh-GR Filters

  • Neutral
  • Standard
  • High-contrast B&W
  • Film-grain look
  • Vintage tones

Very natural color output—not the punchy tones of social media, but closer to reality.

Videography

  • 4K 60fps front/back
  • 4K 120fps Dolby Vision
  • All-round pro controls
  • Underwater mode (IP69 helpful)

Software Experience

  • Android 16
  • 4 major OS updates + 5 years security
  • Clean UI – third-party bloat নেই
  • Glance is available, but can be disabled.
  • Less AI features, more on OnePlus

The UI feels a lot like iOS, simple and clean.

Connectivity

  • 21 global 5G bands (India-তে 17 band active)
  • Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC
  • IR blaster, eSIM support
  • 5-antenna design + extra signal booster chip
  • USB 2.0 (USB 3.2 would have been expected at this price)

Final Verdict: Worth buying?

The Realme GT 8 Pro is undoubtedly a showcase device—one that showcases technological prowess.
The phone is powerful, the camera is excellent, the display is great, and the design is unique.
But if we calculate the correct value-for-money—

  • Camera focused photographer → Excellent choice
  • Long performance priority in gaming → OnePlus 15 better
  • Brand value & resale matter → OnePlus stronger positioned
  • Experimental & stylish preference → Realme GT 8 Pro perfect

Straight talk

At 70-73 thousand taka, this is not a mass-product, it is a statement piece from Realme—
“We can too.”
